What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Events Coordinator position at Saint Louis Zoo?
Responsibilities: Responsible for planning and producing public, donor and member recognition, and fundraising events for the Saint Louis Zoo. Events the Special Events Coordinator could oversee are HullabaZoo, Endangered Species Day, World Ocean Day, School Spirit Day, Educator Open House, and an assortment of member and donor recognition events. In addition to overseeing their assigned events for the year, the Special Events Coordinator will assist members of the Special Events team to plan and produce the Zoo’s largest fundraiser of the year, ZOOFARI, as well as other fundraising and public events like Trivia Gone Wild, Animals Aglow (A Lantern Festival), Make Tracks Through the Zoo, Jammin at the Zoo, Zootoberfest, Boo at the Zoo and Wild Lights. The Saint Louis Zoo’s Special Events team plans and produces over 100 days/nights of events each year. The planning and production of these events includes, but is not limited to working closely with other members of the event team, managing on-site event volunteers, communicating with a variety of internal Zoo departments (animal care team, attractions, audio visual, custodial services, distribution, education, facilities management, food service, catering, guest experience, member services, IT, rentals & retail, and safety & security).
The Special Events team at the Saint Louis Zoo is a part of the Marketing team.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of hospitality/event planning experience and a valid driver’s license are required. Must be positive, energetic, and capable of working under pressure and possess ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks and work independently as well as thrive in a team environment. Qualified candidates must possess strong administrative, math, interpersonal and organizational skills along with a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products. Candidates must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. for 50 yards, stand and walk for extended periods of time, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and be willing to work evenings, weekends and some holidays. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
