What are the responsibilities and job description for the 24-25 Library Student Peer Tutor position at Saint Mary's College?
Saint Mary's Students Only
Description:
The Student Peer Tutor position in the You Belong in the Library program is a leadership opportunity to work with a professional librarian faculty member (Sue Wiegand) by engaging with the upcoming Research With Robots! Workshops, and assisting with the new library Academic Repository. This position was created for a First Gen student who is a Sophomore or above. The purpose is to participate in outreach, offer feedback on the student experience with the program, and welcome, encourage, and mentor other students (especially First Gen students and First Year students) to visit the library, take robot workshops, and engage with our new robot pet companions and other robots. An interest in innovation is a plus, as is any familiarity with the library, archives, and Spark Lab. You will gain career competencies and library research skills in information access, retrieval, and evaluation while opening a window into Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, and Human-Centered Technology issues in Library and Information Science (LIS) as well as applications in the sciences and health and human services. This grant-funded position is a great opportunity to gain experience and demonstrate leadership and responsibility. No robot experience is required! Prefer you to come in and fill out an application when you are on campus rather than emails or phone calls. Must be able to follow directions, prioritize, follow through on projects until completed, and communicate well. Flexibility and initiative are needed. May need to assist people to find or use resources, and work independently. May also be asked to help out in other library departments and learn their procedures. May need to collaborate and coordinate with other student workers, or help them learn procedures. Must be detail oriented, reliable, and willing to go the extra mile. There may be special projects that must be completed in a timely manner.
