Saint Monica Preparatory, a TK-12 day school and ministry of the vibrant St. Monica Catholic Community in Santa Monica, is accepting resumes for a full-time School Counselor for the 2025-2026 school year.
SMPREP provides a college preparatory curriculum for students of diverse abilities, cultures and faiths.
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree and experience working in a school environment. Desirable qualifications include a PPS credential in school counseling.
Additionally, ideal candidates will have experience in college/academic counseling at the high school level, a creative approach to student advising and exposure to four-year universities, certification in college counseling, strong technical skills and familiarity with digital programs for college and career (e.g., Naviance); knowledge and commitment to Catholic education; and strong writing, communication and organizational skills.
Job Skills & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Conducting one-on-one meetings with parents and students to develop a 4-year academic / social-emotional plan, discuss college and career goals and select classes each year
- Monitoring students’ academic progress throughout the year and creating student success plans unique to each student’s emerging needs
- Facilitating student group sessions to address academic and social issues that may hinder progress, such as study skills, stress management, executive function issues, social problems such as social media, transition to high school or grade to grade
- Serving as a grade-level Advisor and sitting on the Lead Advisory Planning Team
- Guiding Naviance workshops to help students navigate the college and career search process
- Familiarity with SIS and SMS systems, such as Schoology Learning Management System and PowerSchool, for student scheduling and advising
- Collaborating effectively with the school’s administration, faculty and staff in all aspects of the counseling process
Compensation & Process
Salary commensurate with education and experience. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles offers health benefits, including medical, dental and vision, and all employees are enrolled in pension benefits from the time of employment and considered vested after five years of full-time employment.
