Position Title: NURSING SUPERVISOR
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the overall administration the St. Norbert Abbey on-site, in-patient,
skilled nursing facility, ensuring skilled care, rehabilitation and other related health services to the
Norbertines who need nursing care, but do not require hospitalization.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
o Maintains communication and documentation with Norbertine community.
o Makes appointments, keeps records, or performs other administrative duties.
o Oversees billing and takes initiative in controlling costs associated with the health care area.
- SUPERVISION
o Supervises PRN (agency) nursing staff, aides and/or assistants. Works with the staffing agency to
ensure competent, dependable nursing and aide care.
- GENERAL MEDICAL OVERSIGHT
o Ensures efficient and sensitive medical care of the retirees of St. Norbert Abbey and any other
Norbertines in need of health care.
o Acts as on-site coordinator, as part of a broader healthcare team, to assess patient needs, plan
and modify care, and implement interventions.
o Oversees the inventory and maintenance of medical equipment.
o Oversees the procedures for the sterilization of equipment and supplies.
- SPECIFIC PATIENT CARE
o Oversees specific on-site medical procedures, including documentation according to standard
medical operating procedure.
o Evaluates nursing intervention outcomes, conferring with other healthcare team members, as
necessary.
o Administers prescribed medications.
o Observes patients, charting and reporting changes in patient conditions.
o Prepares patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and
explains procedures.
o Provides basic patient care or treatments.
o Helps patients with bathing, dressing, maintaining personal hygiene, moving in bed, or standing
and walking.
Experience:
- A minimum of eight year’s work experience in a professional Nursing capacity is required.
Significant supervisory experience is also required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be professionally licensed to work as a nurse in the State of Wisconsin, preferably as a
Registered Nurse (RN). Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with significant work experience is also
acceptable.
- A bachelor of science degree in Nursing is preferred, however, an associate degree with significant
work experience is acceptable.
- Demonstrated independent decision-making, prioritization skills, organizational and multi-tasking
skills are required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage confidential data and maintain confidentiality is required.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to and flourish in a teamwork environment.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
- Understanding of the Catholic Church, its teaching and practices is preferred.
- Familiarity with the identity and mission of the Norbertine Community of St. Norbert Abbey is
expected.
Physical/Visual/Mental Demands of Position:
Position involves occasionally exerting force to support and move up to 25 pounds; frequently lifts 10
pounds and occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds. Must frequently stoop, stand, walk, grasp, feel;
occasionally push, pull, lift, balance. Requires the manual dexterity associated with medical
office/clinical work. Also requires the ability to quickly receive, share and process detailed information.
