Salary Range: $75,000-$84,000

 

Position Overview:

The Saint Peter Claver Interim Assistant Principal will serve as the instructional leader and support school culture, operations, and Catholic faith and identity for the school during the 2025-2026 school year. This individual will be responsible for providing instructional leadership, coaching teachers, and ensuring the academic success of all scholars. 

 

The Interim Assistant Principal will support the school as part of an administrative team that includes the City Connects Coordinator (similar to a school social worker), the Family/Scholar Support Liaison, the Administrative Assistant, and the Principal. During this year of transition, the current principal will continue to serve 2 days a week, primarily leading and supporting the administrative team and high-level scholar and community needs.  The Interim Assistant Principal will work with the administrative team to foster a supportive environment where teachers are empowered to grow professionally, deliver high-quality instruction, and drive student achievement. The assistant principal will also play a key role in strengthening and maintaining the school’s culture and operations, ensuring that the emotional, spiritual, and academic needs of scholars are met. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Instructional Leadership:
    • Lead the process of driving student achievement and teacher practice in alignment with grade-level standards, the school’s curriculum, and Ascension Catholic Academy’s Teacher Competencies.
      • Conduct classroom observations and lesson internalization reviews, providing direct coaching, feedback and professional development for teachers.
      • Lead professional development sessions and/or small-team professional learning communities approximately 2x each week.
      • Analyze classroom and school-wide data and build action plans that improve student achievement and instructional practices. 
      • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the school staff.
    • Lead academic operations, including:
      • Academic partnerships 
      • Assessment coordination
      • Intervention and tutoring programming
      • Procurement of curricular and instructional materials
      • Strategic use of federal funding

 

  1. Scholar, Family, and Community Support and Engagement:
    • Collaborate with teachers, families, and the administrative team to create a school environment that supports and cares for the whole child. In all scholar and family interactions: 
      • Honor all individuals as beloved children of God and practice cultural humility. 
      • Lead and respond through a trauma-informed lens while maintaining high expectations and incorporating restorative practices where appropriate.
    • Build positive relationships with scholars, parents, and community partners to promote their engagement in the school’s mission and scholar success.
    • On days when the principal is not on campus, lead the response to high-level student culture and discipline challenges and family concerns.

 

  1. Operational Leadership and Emergency Management:

    • Collaborate with the administrative team to manage the daily operations of the school, including scheduling, staffing, communication, and student services.
    • Collaborate with the administrative team to coordinate student activities, events, and initiatives to promote student engagement and leadership.
    • On days when the principal is not on campus, lead and serve as the key point of contact in the event of emergencies or crises, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.

 

  1. Catholic Identity and Faith Leadership:

    • Actively promote and model the school’s Catholic identity and values in all aspects of school life.
    • Support the integration of Catholic teachings across the curriculum and school activities.
    • Collaborate with the administrative team to lead the school in faith formation for students and staff, including facilitating prayer, liturgical celebrations, and other faith-based activities.
    • Ensure that the school and Ascension Catholic Academy’s mission is reflected in the relationships, teaching practices, and overall atmosphere of the school.

Salary Range: $75,000-$84,000 annually

  • Starting salary is determined by the candidate's experience and education level
  • Ascension Catholic Academy follows a structured step-and-lane salary schedule similar to public school. The final compensation package will be based on verified teaching experience and educational credentials.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for providing equitable educational opportunities for scholars in an urban, Catholic environment.
  • Experience in urban education with a proven track record of improving student achievement through effective instructional, cultural, and social-emotional practices and skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience using data to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of Catholic education and the ability to model faith-based leadership.
  • Previous experience in coaching and mentoring teachers to improve instructional practices is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in instructional leadership with a proven track record of improving student achievement through effective coaching and instructional practices.
  • Background in leading school culture and knowledge of best practices in social emotional learning, trauma-informed instruction, conscious discipline and/or the whole child model. 
  • Experience in leading academic programs in urban Catholic schools.
  • Active, practicing member of the Roman Catholic tradition.
  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.

 

Physical Requirements:

  •  Ability to work a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, including attendance at required school events (graduation, holiday programs, and other activities as determined by administration)
  •  Sustained mobility to move throughout classroom and school environments for extended periods
  •  Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical tasks required in an educational setting
  • Full sensory capabilities including ability to speak clearly, see, hear, and respond effectively to students, staff, and administrators at all times
  • Ability to fulfill all commitments of the educational program throughout the school year
