Intern- Construction

SAK Construction is seeking motivated college-level interns to join our internship program for an 8-week summer experience at our Southeast Regional Headquarters located in the Metro-Atlanta, Georgia region. This program provides hands-on experience in the construction and pipeline rehabilitation industry, focusing on trenchless technology. Interns will gain exposure to various aspects of our projects, including fieldwork, project management, and technical operations, while working closely with our team of estimators, project managers, and crews.  Additionally, interns will have opportunities to interact with employees at all organizational levels—entry-level, mid-level and executive—broadening their understanding of how our organization operates and gaining insight into their chosen field.
Essential Functions

1. Take-Offs & Spreadsheets: Assist with project take-offs, learn how to input and analyze data on take-off spreadsheets, as well as create tracking spreadsheets prior to project commencement.
2. Job Shadowing: Shadow estimators and project managers, gaining firsthand experience in project planning, bid preparation, and on-site management.
3. Fieldwork Exposure: Participate in field operations, observing and supporting crews with trenchless technology methods.
4. Safety Training: Complete onboarding and safety training during the first week to understand the importance of safety protocols in construction environments.
5. Hands-On Learning: Engage in a variety of tasks, including reviewing project videos, observing crew activities, and supporting project managers in day-to-day tasks.
6. Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with estimators and project managers to better understand project delivery, budgeting, and scheduling processes.

Learning Objectives

1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of pipeline rehabilitation techniques, particularly trenchless technology.
2. Gain insight into project management processes, including estimating, scheduling, and coordinating field operations.
3. Learn how to review and analyze data from take-offs and bid documents.
4. Understand key safety procedures in the construction industry.
5. Participate in job shadowing across different departments to broaden your knowledge and experience in the field.

End-of-Program – Presentation

At the end of the 8-week internship, interns will present a summary of what they have learned to the SAK team. This presentation will serve as a reflection of their experience and provide them with an opportunity to demonstrate their growth and contributions during the program.

Required Education and Experience

1. Current junior at an accredited college or university, preferably pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
2. Strong interest in the construction industry, with a desire to gain hands-on experience.
3. Ability to work effectively both in an office environment and on-site.
4. Strong communication and organizational skills.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
