Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Fire Department Lieutenant to join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will be a Lieutenant and will coordinate daily Preventative Maintenance Inspections, review for accuracy, correct data and close out in the Champs system. Track and maintain shift coverage, schedule overtime coverage and process overtime requests. Coordinate replacement needs for equipment and tools that are required for continuity of the Fire Department. Act as the on-scene Incident Commander for any Fire/Medical/Hazardous Material responses. Review Fire Department reports for accuracy and assure they are completed in a timely manner. Verify emergency response staffing. Perform fire officer duties as directed by plans/procedures/standard operating guidelines or as directed by the manager. This position requires the ability to run a crew and provide daily oversight to ensure deliverables are met.

- Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of related experience, or
- Associate's degree with six (6) years of related experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of related experience is required.
- Three years of firefighting experience is required.
- Current NM or National Registry EMT Basic license.
- NFPA HAZMAT Awareness and Operations Level Certificate.
- NFPA 1001, Firefighter I and II Certificate.
- Valid Class “E” Driver’s License.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Higher education attainment than listed acceptable per internal level identifiers of accompanying years of experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory or management position.
- EMT-Paramedic (National Registry), Fire Instructor, Fire Officer I/II Certification are a plus.
- Previous Company Officer experience in a professional Fire Department is desired.
- ICS 300 and 400, Confined Space and High Angle Rescue IFSAC/ProBoard or equivalent Certifications are preferred.
- Haz-Mat Operations IFSAC/ProBoard or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience working at a DOE facility is a plus.

Minimum salary $80,609 per year of a larger salary range -the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
