Job Overview:
We are hiring per-diem positions for Pre-Op/PACU in an ambulatory surgery in Salem County, NJ. All nurses must possess BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications, and must be proficient in the pre-op and recovery phases of pediatric patients as well as adults.
Provides safe, quality patient care in the Pre-op and/or Recovery area. Accountable for the assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating of patient care from admission to discharge. Communicate with surgeons and anesthesiologists, as needed, about patient conditions.
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- 2-3 years of acute hospital experience in Pre-Op/PACU preferred
- Possess valid state of New Jersey Registered Nursing license
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
- Ability to work as a team member
- Ability to multitask and also adapt to change in the institution
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate ability to gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative and post-operative care
- Ability to care for patients with changing medical priorities and ability to respond accordingly
Essential Job Functions:
- Admit and prepare patients for surgery. Provide ongoing information to the patient and his caregiver to assure that they understand all procedures and feel as comfortable as possible.
- Perform nursing assessment of the patient, start IV, and ordered medications.
- Communicate with other health care team members to assure continuity of care.
- Receive patient in the recovery room after surgery. Assess and evaluate the patient. Continuously monitor the patient during his recovery phase. Document the status of the patient and the care provided.
- Provide discharge instructions to the patient and his caregiver, asking for confirmation of understanding.
- Document charges for all supplies used during the pre-op and recovery phase.
- Perform follow-up patient assessment by calling the patient the day after surgery.
- Remain prepared for emergency situations by knowing the correct emergency procedures, locations of emergency call system, and location of emergency supplies and equipment.
- Ensure that Universal Precautions are maintained.
- Perform narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each surgical day.
- Provide patient education during all phases of the patient's experience at the Center.
- Ensure that the proper supplies and equipment are available in the Pre-Op and PACU.
- Attend continuing education offerings to remain current with ASC issues.
- Take an active role on committees within the organization.
- Identify actual and potential risks to patients and others. Take action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety in the facility.'
