Position Description
Position: Pre-op/PACU Clinical Nurse
Responsible To: Director of Nursing and/or Administrator
Department: Clinical
Purpose: Responsible for competent nursing care as needed for post-anesthesia patients under the direction of the Nursing
Coordinator. Responsible for maintaining quality patient care and accurate and proper documentation of same. Collaborate with physicians and all other members of the health care team to provide the best possible patient care.
Primary Responsibilities
1. PATIENT ASSESSMENT – Perform and document initial and ongoing assessments through observation of patient and records. Initiate pre-op telephone call for verbal assessment of patient and perioperative instructions. Reports findings accurately and on time.
2. PATIENT CARE – Make patient care related judgments and implements appropriate actions within legal, professional, and ethical standards.
3. DISCHARGE PLANNING – Assess discharge needs of patient upon admission.
4. LEADERSHIP – Demonstrate leadership skills and empowerment. Exhibit effective planning, time management, delegation of patient care activities to unit staff and resource utilization. Assure that delegated tasks are carried out safely, effectively, and in a timely manner.
5. PROBLEM SOLVING – Solve problems and troubleshoot issues that may affect one unit or patient care ensuring timely and effective action; critical incidents are documented.
6. COMMUNICATION – Communicate and document patient changes or abnormal findings according to established procedures. Request external and internal customer feedback to ensure department operations are meeting customer requirements.
7. COLLABORATION – Contribute to the development and attainment of unit goals.
8. RULES AND REGULATIONS – Assist in ensuring that productivity and Q1 data is complied and reports prepared for ASC management and regulatory bodies. Understand, apply, support and follow department/ASC policies, procedures and standards at all times.
9. EFFICIENCY – Help ensure that inventory and stock levels are maintained at a minimum level. Identify and implement opportunities to standardize products, reduce waste and reduce costs.
10. EDUCATION – Maintain required professional license and/or certification. Attend ASC meetings and in-service educational opportunities as required.
11. SAFETY – Participate in loss prevention by protecting company assets and maintaining a safe environment.

Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of perioperative process including knowledge of surgical procedures and anesthesia implications.
- Current nursing assessment and patient care skills.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current license to practice nursing in the State of Pennsylvania.
