Your Role With Us:
Referral Specialist- Salem Health Medical Group Neurology Clinic
Primary Functions-
- Obtains, verifies completes and processes all authorizations and referrals ordered.
- Obtains pre-authorization or renewal of authorization as needed to ensure financial reimbursement.
- Ensures authorization number, diagnosis and ICD-10 codes are accurately recorded in Epic.
- Coordinates outgoing referrals by compiling necessary documents to be sent to external specialists.
- Completes EMR Documentation of: Authorizations, Denials, Patient contact, Communication to patient by letter, by phone, or by MyChart.
- Contacts insurance companies to solve and expedite referral processing barriers.
- Communicates with patients to clarify and/or update insurance information, referral locations, address insurance concerns.
- Verifies insurance benefits, using available systems and tools (HDX, Ph Tech, etc.) to determine eligibility, and completes MSPQ, as needed.
- Communicates with specialty offices and insurance companies to expedite urgent referrals.
Background/Expertise:
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
- Certified Health Care Access Associate preferred.
Experience:
- One (1) year healthcare experience, in an admitting office, clinic, physician’s office or insurance office performing patient registration and insurance verification required.
Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Previous EPIC Prelude and Cadence experience a plus. College-level coursework in health care related fields, clinical or administrative, preferred.

Keyboarding at 45 wpm.

Familiarity with contractual nature of HMO and/or PPO insurance plans, Medicare and Medicaid, commercial, workers compensation and other 3rd party payers.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
