What are the responsibilities and job description for the SLCC Student Work Study-Lab Aide, Welding Tool Room position at Salt Lake Community College?
You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a dynamic industrial environment at the SLCC Westpointe Campus, where you’ll actively engage with the hands-on aspects of the welding department. There is no better way to develop valuable skills and gain exposure to a wide range of workforce competencies than by working alongside our team of experienced welding instructors and professionals.
We are looking for someone who:
- Can provide comprehensive support to students, helping them gain the technical knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in the welding program and their future careers.
- Can foster a welcoming and productive atmosphere in the welding shop, promoting safety, collaboration, and a positive learning experience for students and instructors alike.
- Can work compassionately with a diverse group of students and staff in the welding shop, ensuring an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment for all.
- Manage the check-out and assignment of welding tools and equipment to students and instructors, ensuring accurate tracking and tool availability.
- Assist with basic repairs and maintenance of tools and equipment to minimize downtime and maintain optimal functioning in the lab.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe welding lab by ensuring all tools and materials are properly stored and easily accessible.
- Monitor inventory levels and report any shortages or equipment needs to the supervisor to ensure continuous availability of necessary tools.
- Communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff to provide exceptional customer service and foster a collaborative environment.
- Inspect and ensure all tools are in proper working condition, ready for immediate use in welding tasks.
- Contribute to a safe and efficient work environment by keeping the lab organized and adhering to safety protocols at all times.

- 2.0 GPA (minimum)
- Registered for 9.0 credits for Fall and Spring semesters
- Registered for 6.0 credit for Summer semester
- Participate in Campus Internship Program professional development activities
- Currently pursuing a Degree or Certificate in Welding
- Familiarity with a wide range of tools and their functions
- Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities
Work-study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work-Study program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA application from the Financial Aid Office. If you do not have work-study awarded to you, you will not be eligible for work under work-study positions.
