SEEA strives to strengthen student growth by ensuring that they have the necessary tools to achieve goals, graduate with confidence, help navigate their educational journey at SLCC, and support engagement.

About the Specialist 1 Student Employee:
With the support of the SEEA staff, this student employee will develop the following skills:
Communication Skills
  • Participate in college and community events about gaining access to higher education in Utah.
  • Assess, address, educate, and advocate for all SLCC students and their specific needs to persist in higher education.
  • Inform prospective, incoming, and current students about campus resources and services in an effective manner.
Problem Solving
  • Educate, and encourage students to persist in attaining their higher education goals.
  • Collaborate with SEEA staff to develop and administer holistic interventions (e.g. addressing food insecurity, financial aid, academic concerns)
Teamwork
  • Support SEEA in establishing and maintaining relationships with community partners and leaders to provide ongoing support to students
  • Partner with other departments on campus to gather and relay information relevant to students and their success at the college.
Leadership
  • Mentor and support prospective and current SLCC students
  • Create a welcoming environment for SLCC students

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess the ability to:
a. Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of diverse individuals of varying abilities, cultures, ages, and ethnic backgrounds to maintain healthy relationships across the college.

b. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, cultural competencies, and sensibilities to work with diverse populations.
c. Present in front of audiences of varying sizes.
d. Organize, process, and disseminate large amounts of information (i.e. terminology, policies at the institutional, state, and federal levels, and resources) efficiently and accurately.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Support and assist students navigating SLCC
  • Assist in the planning, coordinating, promoting, and executing events and programs hosted by SEEA.
  • Assist in outreach and follow up with coordinator’s student cohorts
  • Engage students who visit SEEA to answer questions and concerns
  • Perform clerical functions such as data entry, spreadsheets and other functions as assigned
  • Coach students in utilizing MySuccess platform (e.g., how to schedule appointments, how to navigate My Success Network, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Salt Lake Community College Student
  • 2.0 GPA
  • At least 9 credit hours during Fall and Spring semester
  • Must not be receiving a student tuition waiver
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties Special Instructions
Work-study is awarded to SLCC students through the Federal College Work-Study program, which requires establishing financial need through the FAFSA application from the Financial Aid Office. If you do not have work-study awarded toyou, you will not be eligible for work under work-study positions.
