What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialist I, Student Employment position at Salt Lake Community College?
This position reports to the North Region Campus & Site Services Manager and works under general supervision to ensure support for students/staff/faculty at the West Valley Center. Assist students, staff, and faculty with admissions, registration, records, and college program questions. Assist and prepare for programming events at the center. Hours for this position will be (position is located at the West Valley Center): Mon – Fri . *Hours may vary each semester depending on department need but will average 20 hrs a week.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Assist students and prospective students in the following areas but not limited to:
Participate in daily operations of the center.
Respond courteously and promptly to in-person and telephone inquiries, serving diverse populations in a warm inclusive manner.
Provide accurate, consistent information.
Assist students with admissions applications, registration, records, transcripts, SLCC systems, Financial Aid, provide information on Accessibility & Disabilty Services, printing, and other questions and needs that arise.
Assist WVC in preparing for programming events

Minimum Qualifications
- High School graduate or GED equivalent
- Able to communicate (reading, writing, and speaking) and work effectively with a wide range of individuals with various backgrounds.
- Ability to operate a computer and general office equipment.
- Basic computer literacy.
Spanish Speaking preferred
Experience specific to Higher Education
One (1)year post-high school education.
One (1) year full-time (or equivalent) work experience.
Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite and computer-based information and scheduling systems.
Knowledge and experience with Banner, MySLCC programs.

Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple activities to meet the department’s needs.
Able to complete assignments with attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
