Great opportunity for those seeking experience in an academic library, especially those who have, are working on, or are considering an MLS and a career as a librarian. This position will primarily focus on the support of Collection Development (CD) and Content Services. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director for Content Services but will work with a variety of librarians and other library staff.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Support Assistant Director for Content Services in preparation for and conduct of collection development team meetings.
Make notes, record votes, identify action items, etc. from monthly collection development meetings.
Ensure collection development monthly, quarterly, and annual cycle needs are met and help maintain the CD calendar.
Support the review, analysis, and reporting of collection development budgets.
Support Acquisitions Librarian in their operations.
Facilitate the recording and transmittal of necessary collections and acquisitions data.
Work with library catalog and related systems.
Perform general customer service when needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications
High School Degree or equivalent
Zero (0) to two (2) years of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree (either completed or in progress).
One (1) to three (3) years experience in a library, academic, or technical environment.
Bilingual or multilingual ability.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to move 25 pounds.
Detailed oriented.
Familiarity with or ability to learn library systems.
Familiarity with or ability to learn Microsoft Office/365 systems.
Ability to follow Best Practices for collection development and business operations.
Ability to facilitate, observe, and participate in regularly scheduled in-person, online, and hybrid meetings.
Familiarity with or ability to learn Excel and/or similar products.
Basic research skills (finding and evaluating information relating to collection development best practices, policies, laws, and innovative techniques.).
Good written and oral communication skills
Work well under minimal supervision.
Ability to multitask or switch between a variety of tasks.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties
As time permits, interest in supporting related library projects, tasks, and initiatives.
Special Instructions
Work Schedule: CD team meeting generally occurs the 2nd Thursday of each month in the afternoon (1pm-2pm) – attendance to this meeting is required.
Schedule beyond this is flexible.
Work Hours: 20-28 hours per week.
