SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

VECC is a twenty-four/seven (24/7) operation that receives both emergency and non-emergency calls. The ideal candidate will provide non-emergency communication responses to residents requesting non-emergency public safety services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Receives non-emergency calls from residents and generates the appropriate service request(s) and/or dispatching of appropriate resources.
  2. Documents and processes non-emergency types of public safety service requests or concerns from citizens in areas such as requests for abandoned vehicles, litter, traffic hazards, potholes, etc.; and documents and processes low-level emergency type calls such as requests involving flooding, traffic signal outages, aggressive/injured animals, animals with reported lack of care, traffic sign knockdowns, etc.
  3. Receive, prioritize, and enter calls for dispatch of non-emergency service requests.
  4. Thoroughly interviews callers to obtain all required and necessary information to ensure an appropriate response and resolution to various situations.
  5. Determine correct input method and input/transmit call information data to ensure documentation of incident and transmittal to dispatcher for prompt response.
  6. Handles complex and/or unusual citizen problems and questions to resolve the issue and respond to citizen/community needs.
  7. Maintains records timelines, identification, and type(s) of service(s) provided.
  8. Provide status of previous requests and follow up to residents' requests.
  9. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.
  10. Ensure the highest level of service is provided to all residents and internal/external customers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Sits for long periods of time answering telephone and entering data into a CAD system
  2. While this position will be a Monday-Friday position the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays may become necessary.
  3. Time is spent at video display terminals, viewing monitors and observing traffic patterns.
  4. This position requires the ability to deal with times of high stress due to medical and other emergencies. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Professional Affiliations)

Mandatory:

 

  1. High school diploma or G.E.D. and 18 years of age.
  2. Typing speed of 40 net WPM
  3. Must be able to pass a critical thinking test (Criticall)
  4. Excellent writing skills, including spelling and grammar.
  5. Must obtain BCI/CJIS certification within three months of employment
  6. Must be able to be POST certified within one year of employment.
  7. Ability to speak in clear and concise English. Able to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  8. Ability to learn to operate a variety of radio and telephone communications equipment.
  9. Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergency or stressful situations.
  10. Ability to work and deal with the public in emergency and non-emergency situations.
  11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisors, fire fighters, police officers, personnel from other agencies, and the public. Strong interpersonal skills
  12. Successful completion of drug screen, and background check
  13. Must be able to attend work as scheduled and/or required
  14. Must be able to work requested overtime.
  15. Must be able to complete all mandated training requirements per management directives.
  16. Must be willing to perform other duties as assigned.
