What are the responsibilities and job description for the Survey Technician position at Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community?
Definition: Under close supervision of the Senior Survey Party Chief, performs entry level survey engineering work on a field survey crew. This position is treated as an FLSA non-exempt position and is considered a DRIVING position.

- Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, rules, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge of survey terminology.
- Knowledge of fundamental survey engineering techniques and procedures.
- Skill in the use of basic hand tools.
- Skill with mathematical computation and use of calculators.
- Skill with use of network computers for use in communication, basic correspondence, and record keeping.
- Skill with time management.
- Ability to learn understand and comply with written and oral instructions in the English language.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and outside contract workers.
- Ability to learn survey processes and techniques relating to Community requirements.
- Ability to take appropriate action in accordance with decisions made.
- Ability to remain aware of changes in the field by reading, attending training, actively participating in the day-to-day activities on the job, etc.
- Ability to check basic mathematical calculations related to survey work.
- Ability to apply algebra and geometry to calculate right triangles.
- Ability to apply addition and subtraction to calculate elevations and stationing.
- Ability to travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces.
- Ability to interact effectively in a group setting to solve problems or gather information.
- Ability to complete forms to record or report information in standard format as specified by the form.
- Ability to communicate orally with other employees and the public in face-to-face, one-on-one settings, or using a hand held radio.
- Ability to measure distance using a tape measure or electronic distance measuring device.
- Ability to make precise arm-hand positioning movements and maintains static arm-hand position to operate survey instruments.
- Ability to coordinate the movement of more than one limb simultaneously.
- Ability to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time to use survey instruments, or to load and unload supplies from the crew truck.
- Ability to drive stakes with up to a 16 pound sledgehammer to set grades on construction projects.
- Ability to make continuous or repetitive hand-arm movement to send signals to a survey crew.
- Ability to move objects between 20-50 pounds long distances (20 feet or more).
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements and dust.
- Ability to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
- Ability to walk distances up to a ½ mile at a time; up to five miles per day.
- Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- Ability to operate a SRPMIC vehicle as necessary to support department and survey division operations.
- Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or GED, and coursework in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry is preferred.
- Equivalency – Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position.
- Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License
