Position/Title: Accounting Quality Control Auditor
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Location: Arlington, VA 22209
Salary: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
Overview:
The Accounting Quality Control Auditor manages all aspects of the finance QA/QC program and promotes financial management continuous improvement practices. The core function of this role is to identify and prevent inaccuracies in account balances, records, invoices, and database systems. He or She will identify discrepancies, errors, variances, and provide insights for process improvement, within the finance department, by determining the root cause (RCA) of any errors/discrepancies found during invoice/billing records analysis. The Accounting Quality Control Auditor will correspond with vendors and internal partners to resolve complex inquiries and discrepancies while reviewing new/existing business requirements to ensure accounts payable alignment. He or She will own the process improvement efforts, participate, and occasionally lead accounts payable projects. The Accounting Quality Control Auditor will lead by example and with a problem-solving mindset. He or She will work closely with senior management to develop and maintain quality assurance programs that support the organization’s financial goals and objectives, implementing robust internal controls, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, materials, and overall operations.
General
This is a full-time FLSA exempt position, that will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will work closely with Financial Analysts and other supporting departments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· The Accounting Quality Control Auditor will lead the development and implementation of internal controls to mitigate financial risks and serve as the last form of error detection before an invoice is paid or submitted for payment.
· You will ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
· You will develop and implement QC procedures and protocols for identifying billing/accounting errors.
· You will prepare detailed reports on QC findings, including trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.
· You will drive timely resolution of defects and participate in dispute resolution
· You will collaborate with business teams and risk partners to identify process improvements and strengthen controls.
· You will collaborate with global accounting teams to identify and resolve discrepancies or errors in financial data, and you will lead periodic audits and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and processes
· You will identify areas for improvement in accounting processes and in conjunction with the CFO, implement changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
· You will Assess potential financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them and stay current with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the QA/QC function.
· You work with other departments to ensure that accounting practices support the organization’s overall risk management strategies
· You will serve as a liaison between the accounting department and other business units, providing guidance on accounting issues.
· You will communicate findings from quality assurance reviews to senior management and recommend corrective actions as needed.
· Monitor the accuracy and reliability of balance sheet reconciliation and support the quality and accuracy of the Enterprise balance sheet.
· Work to ensure materials provided to the prime contractor, vendors, and clients are high-quality, high value, and error-free.
· Design, implement and manage the accounting quality assurance program to ensure accurate financial reporting
· Ensure regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to ensure established procedures are being followed and risk is minimized. Reviews systems, processes, procedures, reports, transactions, and other information through manual and automated procedures to execute planned testing.
· Other Q/A & Q/C duties may be assigned, in addition to Billing backup support as needed.
Qualifications:
· Proven experience in quality assurance, internal controls, and compliance within a large financial organization.
· 7 years’ experience using financial systems, preferably SAP, Excel, Word and Outlook.
· Requires limited monitoring and direction to balance priorities and achieve deadlines.
· Actively participate in process improvement by identifying opportunities, proposing solutions and driving change.
· Understanding of accounts payable, procurement, and general finance/business best practices and interdependencies.
· 2 years relatable financial services, risk, and/or compliance experience and/or comparable college degree.
· BSc/MSc in accounting, finance, business, or relevant field
