Data Center Travel Technician

Job Description:

The Data Center Travel Technician will have responsibility for operations and maintenance at the client’s data center. The candidate will take daily direction from the client’s leadership on-site. Responsibilities include the support of all data center engineering and technology operations, facility and grounds maintenance, and other site support functions. The Data Center Technician will be part of a team that is accountable for the operational performance readiness, reliability, and integrity of the mission-critical infrastructure systems and IT systems.

Must be able to travel up to 90% of the time.

Key Competencies:

• Knowledge of how to properly utilize power tools is required.
• Ability to follow precise instructions.
• Ability to read and understand cabling maps.
• Ability to work at different heights, in confined spaces, and on different surfaces.
• Working knowledge on creating, closing, and tracking work orders.
• Ability to use mobile application technology.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
• Ability to respond to supervisors and other project stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Ability to read BOM (Bill of Materials).
• Experience following given SOW (Statement of Work), MOP (Method of Procedures), and/or SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).

Responsibilities:

• Perform material movement including shipping/receiving and inventory management per standard process.
• Moves/Adds/Changes (Network hardware devices installation and decommissioning).
• Smart Hands.
• Remote Hands.
• Rack and Stack.
• Break-Fix.
• Inventory tracking and staging.
• Structured cabling, labeling, and troubleshooting of fiber/copper/telecom cables.
• Manage or navigate various client-based applications that might include work order tracking, materials ordering/tracking, scheduling, and video conferencing.
• Gain proficiency in company workplace systems for reporting, timecards, expenses, work orders, and the execution of project tasks.
• General Data Center technician tasks.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 50lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks.
• Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly.
• Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
• Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors.
• Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses.
• Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables.
• Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow.
• Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel and site access identification as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Willingness to work in a project based role.
• Data Center experience.
• Ability to travel.
• Industry certifications.
