Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field. Master’s Degree preferred. Three years of experience in insurance management or a related field required. Property and Casualty Licensure (PCL) preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Monitor and review insurance to ensure optimum coverages are in place for property, persons, and financial loss.
Primary Responsibilities
Maintains current and accurate exposure schedules. Maintains current and accurate insurance policy files, schedules, and premium allocations. Responds to certificate of insurance requests. Coordinates insurance policy renewal information and completes draft applications. Coordinates property and casualty claims and loss control programs. Manages and coordinates property and liability claims. Collects, classifies and analyzes data from multiple sources such as audits, claims, renewals and financial reports. Records and properly allocates insurance charges. May create risk forecasting models and reports. Monitors coverages for identified risks and safety programs to ensure they are appropriate and complete. Recommends mitigation efforts through the purchase of appropriate levels of insurance to protect Sam Houston State University from loss related to unexpected or unintended events. Works collaboratively with the System Office. Works through the FEMA and state emergency management Public Assistance (PA) process to win award of disaster recovery grant funds from FEMA after declared disasters. Approves international travel requests and coordinates with insurance carrier to secure coverage for all students, faculty, and staff traveling internationally. Tracks SHSU driving permits to ensure compliance with university policy/state law. Assists with SHSU online Incident Reports and risk related training. Reviews procurements for risks and insurance requirements. Prepares RFPs for university insurance needs and assists in scoring. Makes recommendations regarding coverage amounts, premiums, renewal dates and processes. Serves on various committees. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Knowledge of university infrastructure, policies and procedures would be helpful. Requires thorough knowledge of office systems. Must have the ability to solve operational problems and make suggestions for process improvement. Knowledge of higher education, risk management, and insurance preferred.
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
