Nature & Purpose of Position
The SHSU First-Generation Center is seeking to hire first generation student ambassadors to work with the SHSU First-Generation Center leadership to work in the center and to lead and coordinate targeted programming opportunities for first-generation students. In addition, this position will offer a mentorship component to freshmen students, creating a new opportunity for first-generation freshmen to connect to first-generation upper-class students.
Other Requirements for the Position
First-Generation Student Ambassadors are sophomore through senior students who will serve as center staff and in a leadership capacity for the first-generation community on the SHSU campus. They will lead and coordinate targeted programming events throughout the academic year. The goal of the mentorship component is to provide a safe place to discuss struggles that may be unique to experiences of first-generation student, and to work through new strategies to support their transition to our campus.
- Serve as a representative of the SHSU First-Generation Center.
- Serve as a mentor to first-year first-gen students who opt for a student mentorship component by connecting students to faculty, academic advisors, staff, and University resources.
- Assist and collaborate with center leadership with the incorporation of co-curricular activities.
- Welcome and engage with prospective first-generation students and their families.
- Encourage involvement in First-Generation Center and university organizations and campus events.
