JOB TITLE: Operations Maintenance Crew (Work Study Eligible)

PAY RATE: $9.00 per hour
SUPERVISOR: Senior Assistant Director of Operations and Operations Graduate Assistant
JOB FUNCTION: Assist with the day-to-day operations of the 150,000 sq. ft. Campus Recreation Center (CRC) which includes preventative maintenance, equipment repair, cleaning, and all special projects.
HOURS: Up to 25 hours per week. Flexible work schedules (morning, afternoon, evening)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Main point of contact for all preventive maintenance, equipment and machine repair, and special projects around the CRC.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly routine inspections and maintenance of all CRC facilities.
- Assist building supervisors and professional staff with equipment set up and tear down.
- Contribute to semester reports regarding all equipment and preventive maintenance strategies.
- Responsible for keeping up to date with all CRC maintenance supplies to include but is not limited to machine parts and chemicals.
- Suggest positive changes to professional staff when it comes to the ordering of fitness equipment, machines, and items for the CRC.
- Attend and participate in monthly in-services focused on deep cleaning, organization, and repair of the CRC weight room and all other facilities.
- Ensure facility user safety by having a strong knowledge of the building’s policies and procedures as well as being up to date on CRC evacuation and risk management strategies.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the Senior Assistant Director and Assistant Director of Operations (may result in helping other departments within Campus Rec).
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in 6 or more credit hours at Sam Houston State University
- Successfully pass the State of Texas criminal background check
- Must obtain a valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification within the first 30 days of employment
- Completion of SHSU student employee compliance training and any additional trainings required by the department and university
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Experience with common tools, maintenance/repair, and fitness equipment
- Possess a passion for working with people and around fitness facilities
- Must have an increased focus on being dependable, punctual, and reliable
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of personalities
- Open to constructive feedback while also keeping a positive and upbeat attitude
