The Role
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all maintenance repairs in the building of Briarwood Headquarters, as well as all downstate OASAS-regulated facilities as needed. (i.e. Van Wyck, Richmond Hill, Jamaica OP, Ed Thompson, Queens PARC, etc.) Ensures a clean and safe environment is always maintained at all the buildings for Samaritan Daytop Village tenants and staff. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.
Responsibilities
What You Will Do
- Responsible for all repair work in Briarwood including but not limited to minor plumbing, plastering & painting, stripping & waxing floors, and repairing locks, doors, and furniture.
- Conducts daily building and routine inspections to ensure that the building is maintained, clean, and in good repair.
- Monitors inventory of equipment, furniture, supplies, and goods. Responsible for ensuring the security of inventory and maintaining necessary supplies are available for use as needed.
- Uses a work order system to monitor and track repairs and ensure work orders are resolved and completed promptly.
- Oversee the maintenance of SDV’s offices, program areas, and other common areas (inside and outside) of the facility to ensure that all areas are always kept clean and free of dirt and debris.
- Ensure the curbs, sidewalks, parking areas, play areas, side and rear yards adjoining the building are maintained, kept free of dirt and debris and in a clean and orderly condition, free of accumulation of dirt, rubbish, snow and ice.
- Ensures the repair or replacement of appliances as needed.
- Coordinates and schedules the inspection of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the building and ensures the replacement of damaged detectors.
Qualifications
Who You Will Be
- S. diploma or equivalent.
- At least five (5) years of experience in facility maintenance repairs, plumbing and electrical systems.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of building systems
- Ability to interact effectively with the client population and employees of the agency.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness and ability to be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week.
- Computer literacy including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
