Supervise the daily operations of Samaritan’s grief services, including services for hospice bereaved and community services offered through Samaritan Center for Grief Support. Supervise all Center for Grief staff and volunteers, including hospice social workers with regard to their role as bereavement counselors. Provide education, clinical supervision, and program and quality assurance support needed to keep CFG a leader in grief services.

Essential Functions

  • Provide individual, family and/or group counseling or therapy for bereaved clients, as needed.
  • Develop and facilitate training and continued education to Bereavement Counselors/CFG Staff/Bereavement volunteers/ SW staff, on CFG processes. EMR documentation, and grief and bereavement theory and applications.
  • Clinically supervise bereavement counselors and the counseling/therapy services provided and maintain appropriate documentation reflecting this.
  • Use DSM-5-TR, as appropriate, in the hospice setting, for differential guidance related to grief and/or diagnosis and care planning related to grief and other co-occurring mental health needs.
  • Maintain mental health community resources for referral and collaboration purposes.
  • Provide and participate in community grief education and grief services to community partners.
  • Provide and supervise debriefing support services to for Samaritan staff following difficult clinical experiences.
  • Educate, support and oversee bereavement volunteer project leaders, CFG greeters and bereavement volunteers.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the CFG, group offerings and the implementation of Samaritan's Bereavement Standards of Care and compliance
  • Coordinate and maintain CFG/Bereavement Statistics.
  • Support ongoing development of grief resources on the Samaritan website.
  • Complete administrative duties supporting Manager of Social Work and Counseling Services, including payroll, expense monitoring, staff appraisals, scheduling.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of two years counseling experience including1:1 and group counseling/therapy and familiarity with grief needs across the life cycle
  • Clinical supervision experience and NJ clinical supervision certification.
  • Working knowledge of current grief and bereavement theory and application.
  • Supervisory experience with an ability to serve employees and patients/families with diverse needs.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills with a strong ability to attend to detailed processes, compliance standards and department statistics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to attend to internal and external customer communication needs, written CFG materials, website content.
  • Public speaking skill.
  • Collaborative workstyle.
  • Working knowledge of the South Jersey mental health community and resources.
  • Agile computer skills with an ability to navigate an electronic medical record; proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Microsoft 365, video call platforms (Teams, Zoom, etc.)
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate evenings and occasional Saturdays.

Education or Degree Required: Master’s Degree in Social Work

License/Certification Required: LCSW, valid Driver’s License and Evidence of Auto Insurance Certification
