Range includes data points from multiple labor markets. Specific range is dependent on the labor market where the incumbent will be hired to perform the position. What You'll Do In This Role
- Apply knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles to the preparation and analysis of the statutory-based quarterly/annual financial statements and filings.
- Apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with an emphasis on insurance-based concepts to preparation and analysis of the quarterly/annual GAAP financial statements.
- Apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with an emphasis on Fixed Asset and Accrual concepts to research and resolve various complex accounting and reporting issues.
- Assist in tracking project-related expenses and provide reporting on project expenses and status to senior leadership.
- Prepare journal entries to support the financial reporting functions and reconcile account balances to supporting documentation.
- Produce various analytical reports, research items or trends that are unusual and communicate insights to leadership
- Coordinate with and support external auditors in areas of responsibility applicable to the external audits.
- Utilize familiarity with the SFG entities, business units, chart of accounts, profit centers, hierarchies, processes and controls in order to assist the Financial Planning and Analysis team to meet the department’s goals.
- Utilize familiarity with Prophix, SAP general ledger system and related SAP applications, journal entry interface systems and other applicable technology used by the Financial Planning & Analysis team.
- Participate in the preparation of Statutory and GAAP financial plans in the areas of Income Statement consolidation, Home Office Expenses, strategic plan documents and presentations, and required submissions to parent company.
- Support the Financial Planning & Analysis as well as other Corporate Accounting teams with special assignments and projects as deemed necessary to meet departmental goals.
- Participate in the preparation and submittal of quarterly and annual Rating Agency deliverables including but not limited to surveys and presentations.
- Maintain procedural documentation for all assigned tasks and adhere to processes and procedures in support of the required internal controls.
- Develop and maintain effective, professional and positive, working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization including several geographic locations.
- The workload may occasionally demand additional work outside of the company's standard 40-hour work week.

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Required
- 2-4 years' accounting or public accounting experience Required
- Insurance experience Preferred
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with individuals outside of Corporate Accounting
- Effective analytical and critical thinking skills and a professional judgement disposition
- Collaborative team skills within and outside of Corporate Accounting and the ability to work in a positive fashion toward common organization goals

- Basic knowledge of insurance industry-specific GAAP and statutory accounting concepts
- Working knowledge of insurance products
- CPA designation Preferred
