Educational Requirements:
An associate's degree in speech-language pathology assisting from an accredited institution or equivalent is required. Assistants must also pass a competency test approved by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists and register with the board under the supervision of a licensed speech-language pathologist.

- Administers screening protocols and therapeutic treatment plans written by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
- Communicates with students and other professionals to meet their emotional needs.
- Obtains case histories, completes observation checklists, and manages behavior using appropriate techniques.
- Summarizes and records target behaviors during therapy sessions.
- Performs clerical and administrative functions, organizes student data, and tabulates test scores.
