SAAF Mission
The San Antonio AIDS Foundation seeks to reduce HIV transmission, provide support and treatment for those living with HIV, reduce stigma and support positive sexual health. SAAF provides sexual health education, STI and HIV testing and counseling, medical care, case management, housing and meal support, mental health services and referrals for dental health. Access to care and early intervention have a significant impact on the health and well-being of people living with HIV.
Position
The Health Educator will provide HIV / STI community health education to the public. This includes presentations at schools to students in 6th - 12th grades, colleges, universities, community groups, adult probation and other organizations.
This position demands a high level of cultural competency of the unique needs of the gender and sexually diverse community, communities of color, and other marginalized populations.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide HIV / STI presentations in school districts, rehabilitation / recovery centers throughout San Antonio and surrounding areas.
- Assist in development of educational materials for the program when needed
- Provide HIV / STI Awareness classes for all SAAF staff, volunteers, and those that are court ordered
- Assist with tracking education program statistics, data entry, ensuring data is correct and entered in a timely manner
- Represent program and agency at Task Force, Advisory Board, Community Planning events, and health fairs.
- Engage community in a variety of settings where education and outreach can be conducted to effectively identify populations with factors leading to increased infection
- Community engagement, program promotion and recruitment and large-scale testing events
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Working conditions
While schedule includes normal business hours, a portion of the 40-hour work week will include evening and weekend hours for outreach events. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Testing requires use of medical equipment. Position may require standing for long hours.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and sit. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Salary Description
40,000- $43,500 annually
