Land Use Services Permit Coordinator* - Building & Safety

We offer a competitive salary with bi-annual step increases of approximately 2.5% up to top salary step of $84,260  annually. 

The Land Use Services Department (LUS) - Building & Safety Division is recruiting for a LUS Permit Coordinator who perform basic to advanced duties such as permit coordination, interpreting, explaining, and complying with ordinances, codes and regulations. These positions provide customer service to the public, participate in meetings with the public, research and answer land or structural development related questions, review plans, and provide information regarding requirements. Duties may also include Plan Check assignments function as assistant project managers on Building and Safety projects; review plans for building and construction projects and permit applications; review plot plans for conformance with County Development Code; ensure design reflects mapped hazard overlays; verify necessary reports and studies are submitted; and ensure required utilities are available.

 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Background: Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Incumbents must make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced by the individual providing the transportation and maintained during the course of employment.

*Salary increases contingent upon Property Related Revenue and/or statewide Realignment Sales Tax Collections performance.

Education: Fifteen (15) semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework in project management, construction management, business administration, engineering construction technology, or a closely related field.
College transcripts MUST be included with your application. Applicants with college coursework completed outside the United States MUST also submit an equivalency report from an accredited credential evaluation service with the application.

-AND-

Experience: Candidates must meet the Education requirement and one of the following options:

Option 1: Three (3) years of full-time experience as a Senior Land Use Technician in San Bernardino County or in an equivalent position as a lead worker explaining regulations and reviewing development or construction plans for conformance to regulations and development/building codes. 
 
Option 2: Three (3) years of full-time technical civil engineering or closely related work experience which includes the application of engineering formulas, theories, and practices to design, plan review/plan check, construction, inspection, or repair work pertaining to development and/or improvement plan projects. 

Substitutions: 
An additional 15 semester (23 quarter) units of completed college coursework as described above OR successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
 
OR

One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.
 
Note: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
The ideal candidate will possess prior experience in project management for construction projects, have excellent customer service skills, and be familiar with San Bernardino County Development Code. Experience in monitoring progress of contract work, permit preparations, and ensuring compliance with plans and specifications are highly desired.
