What are the responsibilities and job description for the Caregiver/Direct Care Support position at San Diego Brain Injury Foundation - Howard House?
We are looking for dedicated skilled Caregivers, DCS, CNA, and DSP's to work with our clients in a professional and compassionate environment. We are a 24/7 residential care facility/home that provides assistance with activities of daily living to low-to-mid functioning individuals with brain injury. It is a challenging, and equally rewarding role. People who are survivors of injury, disability challenges, and/or elderly are thankful for high quality assistance in the place they call home. We aim to provide that support. Our Support Care personnel are a part of helping survivors thrive.
The ideal candidate will be skilled, nurturing, inspiring, patient, dependable, ethical, proficient in computer skills for daily reporting, have excellent communication skills, and exhibit the ability to work in a team setting. The successful candidate is able to follow directives and proactively perform a variety of tasks to assist residents and support the home environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist Residents with activities of daily living
- Assist Residents with ambulatory and mobility efforts inside and outside of the Home
- Assist Residents with personal care and hygiene
- Plan and prepare meals with assistance/input from the Residents (when they are able)
- Assist with Resident shopping for essentials
- Assist with feeding when necessary
- Assist Residents with prescribed medication
- Assist with maintaining sanitation of the Home
- Driving Residents to Appointments, activities, and shopping for essentials
- Work with therapist to help clients reinforce physical and functional therapy exercises
- Perform light to medium housekeeping duties
- Daily charting
- Be a pleasant and supportive companion to Residents
- Ability to identify and report incidents involving Resident safety and security immediately
- Act quickly and responsibly in cases of emergency
- Follow directives of daily schedule of care
Skills
- Proven experience as a Caregiver, DSP, DCS, or CNA
- Proficient knowledge of emergency response and first aid (CPR)
- Knowledge of housekeeping activities and cooking with attention to dietary constraints
- General computer software skills (i.e. Microsoft Suite, TEAMS, Zoom)
- Ability and willingness to adhere to health and safety standards
- Possess strong personal and work ethics (i.e. dependability, integrity)
- Exhibit ability to work with a team
- Respectful and compassionate
- Exhibit good time management skills
- Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to carryout task proactively
- Physical endurance
- Ability to assist Residents with compromised mobility
Requirements
- Valid Drivers License
- Proven good driving record
- Documented authorization to work in the U.S.
- Exhibit proficiency of verbal and written communication in English (multi-lingual welcomed)
- Scrubs uniform (stipend available)
- Minimum of High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification preferred, (i.e, CNA, DSP, DCS)
