Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the district's fine arts department. Ensure that the development and delivery of
the fine arts curriculum and instructional program is effective and efficient, incorporates district goals,
and supports student achievement.
Direct and manage the instrumental music and band program at assigned the campus. Provide
students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their
potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and provide an opportunity to
participate in extracurricular band. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function
successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Demonstrated competency in instrumental music
Current first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automatic external defibrillator (AED)
certificate
Preferred Master's degree in education administration
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of fine arts programs
Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to interpret data

Major Responsibilities and Duties of Fine Arts:
Instructional and Program Management
1. Oversee the development and delivery of fine arts programs that incorporate district goals and
support student achievement.
2. Monitor and reevaluate fine arts programs on an ongoing basis using input from teachers and
principals, applied research, and student data to determine effectiveness and improve outcomes.
Recommend changes and adjustments to the program where appropriate to meet student needs.
3. Encourage and support student performances, exhibits, and other displays of student work.
4. Ensure that the necessary time, resources, materials, and technology to support accomplishment of
educational goals are available.
5. Participate in the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the district's goals and
objectives related to instructional programs.
6. Engage instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional tools and materials to meet student
learning needs.
7. Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance
objectives (academic excellence indicators).
8. Plan and provide staff development for fine arts teachers that supports instructional programs,
incorporates input from teachers and principals, and is consistent with the district's mission.
9. Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to fine arts teachers to facilitate
instructional improvement and innovation. Participate in implementing the designated teacher
appraisal system.
Policy, Reports, and Law
10. Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local
board policy.
11. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.

12. Develop and administer fine arts department budget based on documented program needs and
ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
Personnel Management
13. Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in fine arts department.
14. Select, train, evaluate, and supervise department secretary and make recommendations relative to
assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
Communication
15. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers,
staff, parents, and community members.
Major Responsibilities and Duties of Head Band Director:
Instructional Strategies
16. Direct instrumental performers, including marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloists, and
ensembles.
17. Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's
eligibility to participate in band.
18. Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies,
parades, and UIL.
19. Support band booster club activities.
20. Develop and implement plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and
show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for
individual student differences.
21. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment
that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject
matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and
administrative regulations.
22. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special
education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
23. Work with other member of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods
according to district requirements.
24. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program
effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.

25. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
26. Be a positive role model for students and support mission of the school district.

27. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional
development of students.
28. Manage student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
29. Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips activities and arrange transportation, lodging,
and meals for out-of-town events.

facilities.

colleagues, and community members.

33. Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.
34. Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program.
35. Oversee cleaning, repairing, and storing of all instruments and equipment.
36. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

37. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
38. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
39. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the
band area.
