POSITION SUMMARY
The San Diego LGBT Community Center is seeking an experienced senior grant writing professional with a documented record of success to expand institutional fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Grant Writer will possess a deep commitment to the LGBTQ community and demonstrated ability to execute a multi-year, multi-million-dollar development plan focused on grants. This position will be responsible for securing large grants from corporations, foundations, and government agencies that support The Center's mission and work.
PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Write the majority of The Center's large grant proposals.
- Develop a deep understanding of program content to ensure integrity and quality of proposal writing.
- Lead proposal generation process, including coordinating with key staff to produce and submit compelling high-quality proposals.
- Ensure that grant proposal and reporting deadlines are met.
- Work closely with the finance and contracts team to prepare budgets and other financial documents required for grant proposals and reports.
- Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to develop statistical data, maps, and other material to support grant proposals and reports.
- Submit drafts in a timely fashion to the COO for review.
- Establish and adhere to grant preparation and review timelines.
- Maintain electronic grant files.
- Ensure effective working relationships with grantor Program Officers.
- Research new grant opportunities and prepare research briefs.
- Keep updated on Center campaigns and needs through attendance at staff meetings and individual communications with key staff.
- Stay current with relevant statistics and best practices for service delivery.
- Utilize centralized grants calendar and database for applications, reports, and awards or denials.
Required Qualifications :
Education / Experience : At least 5 years of experience in grant writing with a demonstrated track record of success for government, private, and corporate funders in organizations with $3 million budgets or more. Related experience can be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Computer / Office Equipment Skills : Proficiency in working with computers and Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive. Must have general database management skills.

Professional Skills : Experience with financial and program management database systems including Raiser's Edge, Apricot, Instrumental, and similar systems.
