Overview:

  • The salary for this position is $21.24 - $29.28 per hour, 40 hours per week.
  • This position is based out of the SDSU, Imperial Valley campus.
The School of Nursing is part of the SDSU College of Health and Human Services. It is one of five schools, the School of Nursing, the Graduate School of Public Health, the School of Social Work, the School of Exercise and Nutrition, and the School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.

The School of Nursing has both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and trains future nurses in conjunction with a wide variety of community health care agencies who provide student placement for educational experiences and training purposes.

Under the direction of the School of Nursing Director and Associate Directors, the incumbent will provide high quality, accessible and consistent mentoring services to High School students interested in pursuing a degree in healthcare. The incumbent will support students from three to four identified Imperial County high schools throughout the grant period. He or she will work with students to serve as a liaison between the program leadership, community partners, and high schools. The program mentors will facilitate all participant recruitment, activities, data collection, along with developing online and in person course materials. The program mentor will recruit health care professionals to work with the high school students, conduct and organize all mentoring series and activities, field trips, and support students with their presentations at the high schools and at the Annual Evidenced-Based Conference. Program mentors assigned to each high school will take responsibility for the students in the group and be the point of contact between the group of students, high schools, and program activities. Program mentors will accompany students on all off-campus activities.

The person holding this position is considered a “Mandated Reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in the CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities:
Position Specific Responsibilities (75%)
Support students from three to four identified Imperial County high schools throughout the grant period
Serve as a liaison between the program leadership, community partners, and high schools.
Facilitate all participant recruitment, activities, data collection, along with developing online and in person course materials.
Recruit health care professionals to work with the high school students, conduct and organize all mentoring series and activities, field trips, and support students with their presentations at the high schools and at the Annual Evidenced-Based Conference.
Assume responsibility for the students in the group and be the point of contact between the group of students, high schools, and program activities.
Accompany students on all off-campus activities.

Student Advisement (20%)
  • Communicate effectively with students, other departments, the Director, and other administrator in relation to student needs.
  • Judiciously uphold student confidentiality, FERPA requirements, and university privacy and requirements in all communications.
  • Be proactive in dealing with students, parents, and faculty when concerns arise.

Other duties (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum Qualifciations
  • 6-years of progressively responsible experience in an office or administrative environment

Desired Qualifciations:
  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Background in a healthcare field
  • Familiar with CSU and SDSU general education and graduation requirements.
