The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is seeking a Pre-College Academy Faculty-Percussion position during the 2025-2026 Pre-College Academic Calendar Year. Reporting to the Associate Dean and Executive Director, Pre-College and Continuing Education, the incumbent will be responsible for providing private percussion instruction and percussion ensemble coaching for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College.
Duties Included But Not Limited To:
- Teach individual lessons on a weekly basis following the Pre-College academic calendar
- Direct and coach the Pre-College Percussion Ensemble including season planning, program development, rehearsal planning, and conducting weekly rehearsals
- Develop lessons and a long-range teaching plan based on the individual needs of each student
- Coordinate lesson schedules in consultation with the Pre-College Office
- Prepare students for participation in division recitals, showcase concerts, juries, auditions, competitions, festivals, and other SFCM related performances
- Provide routine assessment and feedback
- Adjudicate juries, auditions, and competitions as requested by Division Director
- Represent the Pre-College locally and nationally; Actively recruit students to maintain studio enrollment and meet percussion department enrollment needs
- Understand and support the Pre-College curriculum and its related activities
- Communicate in a timely manner with the Pre-College Office
- Develop working relationships with Bay Area music educators and arts institutions
- Participate in faculty meetings
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate excellent musicianship and artistry as an educator with a track record of success with pre-college level students
- A minimum of four (4) years professional experience working in the field of arts education with a four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent required
- A strong background and understanding of percussion pedagogy and repertoire
- Candidates with experience working in diverse communities encouraged to apply
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships with SFCM administrative staff and faculty
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills; maintain a good relationship with parents; demand a high standard of excellence while creating an encouraging, inspiring, and engaging experience for the students
- Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for the selected candidate
