Description
- Conduct weekly rehearsals following the Pre-College Academic Calendar August - May, annually. (Saturdays, 12:30-1:45pm
- Prepare and conduct a minimum of three (3) performances per year for each ensemble, in addition to any additional outreach performances
- Select repertoire appropriate for the chorus, making effective use of all available personnel and cultivating diversity of repertoire styles and a broad range of skill development opportunities.
- Develop the season calendar in collaboration with the Pre-College staff to include performance dates, rehearsal schedule, and/or outreach performances
- Communicate in a timely manner with the Division Directors, Administrative Staff, and Choral Teaching Artists regarding weekly rehearsals
- Prepare performance materials including markings, edits, and any necessary modifications
- Create and communicate section assignments through vocal evaluations
- Mentor Choral Teaching Artists by providing guidance, empowerment, and performance opportunities as appropriate
- Develop and maintain working relationships with area music educators and arts institutions
- Attend three (3) artistic planning meetings per year as scheduled by Division Directors
- Adhere to ensemble’s budget as set forth by the Division Directors
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Directors and Program Managers
Requirements
- Demonstrate excellent musicianship and artistry as a conductor and educator
- Possess ease in communicating with students ages 13-18 and strong classroom management skills through a joy in music making
- A minimum of three (3) years professional experience working in the field of arts education with a four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent required
- A strong background and understanding of choral pedagogy and choral repertoire
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships with SFCM administrative staff and faculty
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills; maintain a good relationship with parents; demand a high standard of excellence while creating an encouraging, inspiring, and engaging youth chorus experience
- Experience working in and collaborating with communities with a diverse range of backgrounds and socioeconomic status
- Successful completion of a criminal background check is required for the selected candidate
