As a sworn Peace Officer under the direction of the Chief of Police, performs supervisory duties, general law enforcement and patrol duties in uniform, without limitations, to meet Department staffing needs.Supervision Exercised : Incumbents in this classification supervise subordinate sworn and non-sworn staff.NOTE : This position is designated supervisory and is not represented by a bargaining unit.EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIESUnder the general supervision of the Chief of Police, the Lieutenant is responsible for the supervision of all assigned personnel and is responsible for the protection of life and property and enforcement of all pertinent laws within the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Community College District Police Department.Act as an overall assistant to the Chief of Police and may act as temporary head of the Police Department in the Chief’s absence.Work closely with members of the campus administration, faculty, students, or representatives of local public safety agencies in the implementation of policies, procedures or agreements pertaining to program operations.Plans, assigns, directs, and coordinates the activities and schedules of personnel assigned to the law enforcement program of the Community College District.Directs the enforcement of city, county, and state laws and ordinances including applicable provisions of the Penal Code, Vehicle Code and Welfare and Institutions Code, and the implementation of institutional security rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Selects, supervises, and evaluates security personnel, directly and through subordinates; investigates complaints concerning institutional security activities and initiates appropriate disciplinary action.Prepares the annual departmental budget for personnel, equipment, and supplies.May appear in court to provide testimony regarding arrests and citations.Prepares the Clery Annual Security Report, coordinates the Campus Security Authority program, and reviews, updates, and develops District policies and procedures to be compliant with Clery Act requirements.Manage the parking enforcement program including citation fine collections and online student parking permits sales.Coordinate the Department’s Field Training Program, Dispatch Communications Training Program, and Parking Enforcement Training program.Assume administrative investigations responsibilities and other relevant disciplinary issues as assigned by the Chief of Police.Coordinate Peace Officer Standards and Training Audits.Manage the department’s vehicle fleet and Body Worn Camera programs.Lead and participate in hiring process for public safety positions.Attend Participatory Governance Committee meetings.Act as Incident Commander during critical emergency situations on District property.Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in police science, criminology, public administration, or related field.Experience : Two (2) years of progressive law enforcement leadership management experience, as a Lead in a Public Safety position; AND four (4) years of experience as a police officer or member of a military police unit.License and Certification : Possession of a valid California driver License.Possession of a P.O.S.T.
