Who We Want

Under supervision of a teacher/administrator, employee will support student’s primary communication and educational access through use of Assistive Technology (AT) Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) (AT/AAC) as specified in a child’s Individual Educational Program (IEP).

The employee assists certificated staff by: operating instructional and communication equipment in appropriate instructional settings, implementing lesson plans (activities which include reviewing and correcting the work of pupils), participating in parent conferences when possible, proctoring examinations, keeping relevant records, as well as performing related duties as required.

Under the supervision of a special education teacher/administrator, employee must facilitate use of AT/AAC with special needs pupils. Duties include assisting in the implementation of the curriculum designed to serve pupils with special needs based on their IEP. Trainings for the position are job embedded.

Minimum Qualifications

One of the following: An Associate’s Degree or higher; or 48 College units and a High School diploma; or passing of the CBEST Exam and a High School diploma; or passing of the Instructional Aide Exam and a High School diploma.

Desired Qualifications

Utilizes knowledge appropriate to satisfy the Distinguishing Characteristics of the class listed above, examples of which may include: working knowledge of and experience with computers, operating systems, software applications and the internet; familiarity with instructional methods; and knowledge of school rules and regulations. Demonstrates competency in performing the following tasks: working with pupils who require the use of AT/AAC, acting quickly and effectively in emergencies, working with and relating to all individuals within the culturally diverse environment of SFUSD, and developing and maintaining effective, courteous communications with pupils, staff and public.
