DescriptionFounded in 1869, the San Francisco Yacht Club maintains one of the country's finest yachting facilities.Manager : Clubhouse Manager Classification : ExemptDirect Reports : BartendersCompensation and Benefits : The salary range is $80,000 - $90,000 (D.O.E.); we provide paid time off, paid holidays, healthcare benefits, and a 401(k) with employer matching contributions.Summary of Position : Oversees all aspects of bar and beverage program. Trains, coaches and manages bartender staff for ala carte, banquet and Club Events. Applies relevant hospitality principles to assure a consistent exceptional member experience. Works in conjunction with Clubhouse Manager and Culinary team to ensure smooth / timely service to members and guests.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES : Member & Bartending ServicesGreets members / guests and oversees actual beverage / bar service on a daily basis.Addresses member / guest complaints and advises the Clubhouse Manager about appropriate corrective actions taken.Serve as club’s opening manager, closing manager and / or manager-on-duty as assigned.Assists Member / Guest Services in absence of Front Desk (issue guest cards, registers guest boats, etc.)Actively serves members beverages; performs all duties as a Bartender as necessary including occasionally fulfilling a shift, fill in as needed, and or assists Bartenders during busy times.AdministrationPrompt response to all staff, member and vendor communication including time off requests and special requests.Ensures all beverage menus are up to date, accurate, clean and readily available.Ensure all beverage offerings, including specials and new items, are properly advertised to members.Ensures POS is up to date for all beverages.Responsible for weekly Bartender schedule based on business needs, including Ala Carte, Banquets and Club Events.Reviews and approves semi-monthly payroll including approving requested time off.Documents and submits to Clubhouse Manager any corrective action and bartender staff performance issues in a timely manner.Staff ManagementWorks with Clubhouse Manager to ensure effective beverage training for all bartending and front-of-house staff.Works with Clubhouse Manager to ensure effective orientation and training for new bartending staff.Monitors all bartending staff’s performance on a regular basis. Role models and promotes excellence in member service, beverage knowledge, mixology, and bar duties. Coaches as needed and addresses performance issues promptly, keeping the Clubhouse Manager appropriately informed.Provides professional development activities for Bartending staff.Ensures that all bartending staff perform all aspects of their jobs including cleaning and restocking.Ensures that all company policies -work place compliance rules are consistently adhered to, including proper time keeping, meal breaks, etc.Ensures that all safety and sanitation standards are consistently met.Ensures bartending staff are properly uniformed and are following all policies and procedures.Responsible for running daily pre shift meetings before all service periods with focus on training and introduction of new skills.Ensures all relevant information is communicated to bartending staff daily (food changes, special member requests, etc.)Ensures bartending staff have all necessary tools and equipment. Communicates equipment issues and needs to Clubhouse Manager in a timely manner.OperationsManages ordering, receiving and inventory of all beverages products and supplies and ensure proper quantity, quality and price for all purchases.Ensures a quality, robust and constantly evolving beverage program consisting of a well thought out, properly priced and executed wine list (including BTG) and cocktail list.Maintains appearance, upkeep and cleanliness of bar and beverage storage areas.Receives suggestions about improvements to the beverage program and implements suggestions as appropriate.Manages glassware inventory and advises Clubhouse Manager on reordering as needed.Special EventsAssists in set-up, execution and supervision of private functions and club events.Assists Clubhouse Manager on planning and execution of club events.Manages event staff as assigned.Other General Duties and BehaviorsDemonstrates and role models leadership qualities by positive, respectful interactions with all, effective teamwork and collaboration, club policy adherence, and through fostering member relationships.Complete all other duties as assigned by the Controller and / or General Manager.QUALITIES, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED : A minimum of 4 years of progressive responsibility in food and beverage industry required.A minimum of 2 years of personnel management, preferably in a private club environment.Strong knowledge of all beverages, especially wine.
