What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Lab Scientist position at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital?
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs clinical laboratory testing which involves the application of sophisticated analytical knowledge in a wide range of the Clinical Laboratory functions, including Chemistry, Hematology, Serology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Immunohematology, Coagulation and Cytology; performs the tasks of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist to help the physician in diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
The majority of the patients that interact with the laboratory staff are adult and geriatric patients. Therefore, members of the laboratory staff must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide laboratory services appropriate to the age of the patients, their physical and psychosocial needs as they differ with age, and be knowledgeable in recognizing signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect. Members of the laboratory staff also must be cognizant of safety issues, both environmental and medical and arrange procedures to ensure patient safety. Laboratory personnel must be competent to communicate and obtain samples from adults and geriatric patients as well as children, and also must be capable of adjusting their treatment and instructions appropriate to the specific needs of the patient.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science. Current California licensure. Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinical setting. Qualification as General Supervisor per CLIA 88 in order to take call and work weekends/holidays without direct supervision. Basic Computer Skills.
