Job Summary

This position is responsible for directing San Juan College’s TRIO Upward Bound Program. The Upward Bound Director ensures that the program meets established goals, objectives, and federal guidelines. The Director will serve as the primary liaison between the program and the college administration, faculty, public school district partners, participants, and the community.

Essential Duties

• Responsible for program development, implementation, and management of day-to-day operations.

• Maintains appropriate records, and prepares, and collects time and effort reports.

• Manages the program budget; monitors expenditures.

• Prepares the annual performance report for the Department of Education; ensures the accuracy and completeness of data.

• Ensures program compliance with federal, state and college rules and regulations.

• Coordinates program assessment and reporting functions.

• Gathers and evaluates participant performance reports.

• Serves as liaison to college departments, target schools, and community agencies; provides information on program objectives and accomplishments.

• Provides training for program staff.

• Coordinates and implements special events and workshops.

• Ensures awareness and understating of the program by providing presentation and networking.

• Devotes a majority of work time to supervisory duties; customarily and regularly directs the work of two or more other employees

• Makes recommendations to hire, promote, and discipline direct reports.

• Conducts annual performance reviews of all direct reports.

• Performs related duties.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a Master’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
