The (temporary) Employee Communications Specialist for the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians plays a key role in shaping a high-performance enterprise and engaged workforce; and at the heart of shaping an engaged workforce is effective communication. Reporting to the Employee Communications Manager, the Employee Communications Specialist is responsible for executing comprehensive, integrated communications plans that support Human Resources (HR) objectives including strategic initiatives to internal HR tactics, ultimately supporting employee engagement and enterprise-wide performance. The Employee Communications Specialist role is dedicated to supporting employee-focused communication initiatives as well as executing best practices in employee communications.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Creates high-quality, compelling, and focused communication materials that establish confidence, trust and engagement with employees, including but not limited to: presentations, online content, newsletters and memos using a variety of distribution channels (email, video, websites, social media, etc.).

2. Tracks effectiveness of communication campaigns and manages feedback channels. Utilizes information to make recommendations to improve communication strategies.

3. Supports key internal teams on communication strategies.  Develops communications to help align enterprise workforce to strategy and objectives; enabling more effective and efficient employee productivity.

4. Reviews, edits, and improves (as needed) essential internal communications prior to dissemination, to ensure accuracy, clarity and appropriateness.

5. Works closely within Employee Communications Team and with other stakeholders to keep abreast of employee-relevant developments and trends in order to communicate with impact.

6. Assists with development and implementation of new communication vehicles.

7. Performs other duties as assigned to support efficient operation of Department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, Business Administration or related field required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Corporate Communications, Human Resources or Marketing; or Master’s Degree with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the previously listed fields preferred.

  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and standards of Human Resources required or preferred.

  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office required.

  • Intermediate proficiency with Adobe platforms, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, and Premiere Pro or similar preferred.

  • Intermediate proficiency with DSLR photography/videography preferred.

  • Proven track record of developing effective communications utilizing multiple mediums (video, audio, print, web, etc).

  • Demonstrates a results-oriented approach with the ability to perform.

  • Provides outstanding communications: written, oral, listening, presenting and expressing ideas.

  • Skilled at editing own work and the work of others with superior attention to detail.

  • Well-organized and able to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.

  • Thrives in a team environment to creatively solve problems with a high tolerance for ambiguity.

  • Capable of summarizing and communicating complex topics to non-subject matter experts at all levels including to senior management.

  • Demonstrates commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

  • Must be compassionate, have a passion for people and a collaborative spirit.

  • Must be able to build and maintain positive professional relationships.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • A qualified candidate/employee must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the enterprise’s insurance carrier.
