CRITERIA SPECIAL DAY CLASS TEACHER
SDC PRESCHOOL
Possess a early childhood special education credential or be enrolled in the appropriate credential program
Applicant provides direct educational services to preschool age students 3-5 yrs up to six hours per day.
Applicant demonstrates knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional strategies for 3-5 year olds.
Applicant demonstrates experience with successful collaborative co-teaching models with general education teachers i.e. complimentary instruction, supportive learning activities, and team teaching.
Applicant demonstrates knowledge of and experience with appropriate instructional strategies for students with autism and other communication and social disabilities including Applied Behavioral Analysis, TEACCH, Picture Exchange Communications System, Social Skills Curriculum and Integrated Play Groups.
Applicant demonstrates the ability to complete a functional analysis, write and implement positive behavioral intervention plans.
Applicant has demonstrated skills in behavior management for children age three to five including developmental principals of early childhood education.
Applicant demonstrates assessment skills for students age 3-5 including transdisciplinary play based assessment.
Applicant demonstrates skills and interest in parent education.
Applicant demonstrates skills in a variety of assessment techniques for preschool age children including developmental inventories such as Brigance, Autism Rating Scales, Child Behavior Checklist.
Applicant demonstrates knowledge of special education regulations and timelines.
Applicant demonstrates skills in writing appropriate assessment reports and goals and objectives that are based on standards and benchmarks for preschool students.
Applicant demonstrates knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies used in general education classes.
Applicant has demonstrated experience in successful communications with general education staff, families, and other special education staff.
Applicant demonstrates skills necessary to work with staff members as a team player.
Applicant demonstrates flexibility in working with students, family and staff.
Applicant demonstrates leadership skill and a willingness to take on school wide responsibilities to support other staff members.
Applicant has demonstrated skills in working with students in a positive manner.
