Sr Mechanical Design & Process Engineer

IPS – ABBA Roller is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design & Process Engineer to join our organization and support design, development, and testing of elastomeric components and precision mechanical systems. This senior-level role is ideal for engineers passionate about mechanical design, materials science, and advanced manufacturing. The successful candidate will work on engineered solutions for industries requiring high-performance elastomeric components & metal-to-rubber bonded products.

Job Responsibilities:

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you play a crucial role in developing and optimizing elastomeric components and sealing solutions for various industries including robotics, EV, agriculture and industrial applications. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, managing multiple development & application engineering projects, and ensuring that all components meet industry standards. Your expertise in mechanical design and manufacturing will be instrumental in delivering high-performance elastomeric and elastomer-metal bonded solutions that meet critical end-application requirements.

Mechanical Design & Development

• Design and develop high-performance elastomeric components & metal-to-rubber bonded products that provide engineered solutions for end customers.
• Create 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and engineering documentation using SolidWorks, Autocad and/or CATIA.
• Design process, test and check fixtures using 3D printing technology, as needed.
• Optimize designs for manufacturability, durability, and cost-efficiency, ensuring high-performance solutions for extreme environments.
• Ability to conduct or outsource FEA analysis with elastomer nonlinear properties a plus.

Documentation & Compliance

• Provide engineering documentation, quality test proposals and reports.
• Ensure designs meet ISO 9001 requirements.
• Work with a cross-functional team to ensure compliance with any regulatory standards and customer expectations.
• Develop & maintain Technical Compliance Matrix during new development projects.
• Compile / develop material data sheets for engineering and customer use, as needed.

Collaboration & Support

• Partner with manufacturing, quality, and lab teams to transition designs from concept/NPI to production.
• Assist in prototype development, validation testing, and troubleshooting for customer applications and industry standards.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to refine engineering specifications and project requirement

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Research and collaborate with Materials Lab, integrating new elastomeric material data, compound compatibility and manufacturing techniques to enhance product performance.
• Support lean initiatives to improve design efficiency and production processes.
• Stay updated on emerging industry and elastomer technologies and best practices.

Job Specifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.

Years Experience:

• 5 to 7 years of experience in mechanical design, elastomeric components, or manufacturing.
• Experience in high-precision mechanical design, elastomers, and composite materials is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with industrial standards is advantageous.

Skills:

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Autocad and/or CATIA).
• Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and ASME Y14.5 standards.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including 3D printing, rubber molding, polymer extrusion, CNC machining, and coatings applications.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to drive tasks & projects to completion.
• Detail-oriented with time management skills to handle multiple projects.

Preferred (Not Required):

• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and industry regulations
• FEA (Finite Element Analysis) using Abaqus, experience with stress analysis, and materials science (elastomers, polymers, composites, and metals).
• Experience working with OEMs, Vendors, and Sub-Tier OEMs/contractors, high-performance industrial manufacturers.
• Background in designing with elastomers, adhesives and metals.
