What are the responsibilities and job description for the Apprentice position at Sandis?
Sandis is currently looking for an entry level Land Surveying Apprentice in the San Jose or Stockton to Sacramento area. This individual would work under the direction of our Survey Party Chief and obtain hands-on training to learn Land Surveying and attend apprenticeship classes weekly. Our ideal candidate is a team player, who is willing to learn, self-motivated and an early bird (enjoys working 6am – 3:00pm). Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in the setup of land surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and digital levels.
- Assist in conducting field surveys by setting up equipment, taking measurements, and collecting data on-site.
- Participate in the establishment of survey control points and benchmarks.
- Learn to collect accurate and precise measurements of distances, angles, and elevations.
- Assist in recording field notes and other relevant data during surveys.
- Learn to perform measurements of land features, boundary lines, and topography.
- Learn the elements of structural steel survey.
- Follow surveying procedures and guidelines to ensure accurate surveying data.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during field surveys.
- Learn about and comply with relevant regulations and standards in the surveying profession.
- Maintain and organize survey equipment, vehicle, and tools.
Basic Qualifications, Skills & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Commit to the Apprenticeship Program which requires passing classes, exams, and getting the necessary hours from on-the-job training.
- Experience in construction or a similar industry is preferred.
- Valid CA driver's license
- CPR/First Aid certified preferred.
- Detail-oriented with time management skills

Physical requirements include the ability to:
- Lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
- Walk over rough and uneven terrain carrying survey equipment.
- Move in and around confined and cluttered places.
- Stand up to 12 hours per day.
- Work overhead
- Use hands to grasp and arms to reach.
- Be willing to work exposed to the elements and at extreme heights.
- Work outside in various weather conditions
Upon employment, may be subject to and must pass random drug testing in compliance with federal, state and client guidelines. Continued employment is dependent on meeting project specific requirements.
