SCOPE:
Performs supervisory duties directing staff to provide services to maintain Airport buildings and facilities, including welding, painting, equipment, and fixture repairs or replacement and the maintenance of buildings on airport property, within the limitations of standard methods and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Performs all the duties of a General Building Maintenance Worker
- Assigns, instructs, directs crews, and participates in daily activities pertaining to all airport facilities
- Supervise employees and actively participate in bringing maintenance projects to successful completion
- Plans construction and maintenance work from blueprints, plans, or rough sketches
- Keeps record of time, material, and equipment used on projects
- Give progress reports to the Assistant Director of Maintenance
- Performs other duties as required
- Operates and provides for the care of machinery and automotive equipment used in assigned construction and repair activities
- Coordinate with the mechanic on any repairs or services needed
- Enforces safety standards and safe operating procedures
- Supervise and participate in the transportation of tools, equipment, and crews to and from the work site
- Purchase and control tools needed for maintaining all airport facilities
- Assists in evaluating employee performance for those employees under their immediate supervision
OTHER DUTIES:
- Perform or assist with any operations to maintain workflow and meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
- Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules, keeping work area clean and orderly.
- Participate in various meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified knowledge of new developments, requirements, and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Use truck (panel van or utility bed) stocked with hand and hand power tools, construction supplies and materials, front end loader, dump and bucket truck, trenchers, metal benders, radio communications for ATC, and welding equipment.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Considerable knowledge of and skill in the use of tools, equipment, and machinery used in construction, maintenance, and repair work related to the area of the assignment.
- Knowledgeable of the projects assigned and the materials needed to complete the project.
- Able to assess hazards and dangers in assigned projects.
- Able to supervise skilled and unskilled workers in a manner conducive to full performance.
- Able to instruct, train and supervise personnel in all aspects of assigned projects
- Able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Able to understand the importance of keeping up with current industry standards.
- The General Maintenance Foreman shall be responsible for actively pursuing avenues to enhance job qualifications further.
- Valid Florida driver's license
- Able to pass security screening and the airport badging requirements
- Able to effectively communicate with Air Traffic Control and operate safely in the movement and non-movement areas of the airport.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work for a large facility, Air Traffic Control communication.
SKILLS:
Equipment operator, HVAC, tools, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, flooring.
EDUCATION:
High school graduate or equivalent, Prefer – trade school training, OSHA forklift certification, OSHA Bucket truck/fall protection certification, CDL with airbrake endorsement.
