JOB TITLE Primary Counselor
SHIFT: 5:30 am to 01:00pm Monday through Friday
LOCATION: SANFORD TREATMENT CENTER
SALARY LEVEL: According to credentials and experience in the field
SUPERVISOR: Program Director
** MUST BE registered with the NCSAPPB**
** Must be able to pass a drug screening upon hire**
SUMMARY: Responsible for ensuring that competent, safe quality and professional care is provided to each of the patients assigned to his/her caseload or other team members (in their absence), in accordance with current applicable Federal, State and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Utilize knowledge of chemical dependency and counseling techniques to introduce effective education and counseling for patients under their care and in each unit under other clinical staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned. Provides quality care to the assigned patients, in terms of compliance with facility expectations,
SMA and other licensing boards assuring effectiveness of the therapeutic series. Conducts individual and group counseling to meet treatment plan goals and objectives. Produce a clear and concise documentation in all areas including, but not limited to: Admit note, assessment, daily charting, weekly clinical review, staffing notes, treatment plans update, biopsychosocial, transition and discharge planning, documentation of family sessions as needed and all summaries. Responsible for appropriate referral to each patient in need, open clear and ethical communication with referral sources; follow up of each of his cases after discharge. Motivates patients for changes, effectively performs crisis interventions, screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling (group, individual, family). Appropriately and professionally provides case management, patient education and keep clear, ethical and confidential reports and record keeping. Interacts and relates with peers and other professionals to assure comprehensive and quality care for the patients.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None. Reports to Program Director and work closely with all clinical teams.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A) in Psychology, Counseling or, Social
Work or related field or Associates Degree in Counseling or related field. Registration with the North
Carolina Substance Abuse Board is required as well as supervision if you are not a licensed or certified substance abuse counselor. Experience in the field may offset formal education requirements. If in recovery, at least 2 years continuous sobriety is required. Ability to work independently as well as with the team, ability to maintain a high level of professional ethics.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general clinical reports and documents.
Ability to respond to regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information to the Supervisor.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS: HIV/AIDS Educations and non-violent crisis intervention.
