What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Sheriff position at Sangamon County Sheriff's Office?
The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for Sangamon County Deputy Sheriff positions for immediate openings and future vacancies. Deputy Sheriffs are responsible for day to day operations of the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office, including enforcement of laws, community caretaking, process service, traffice enforcement, responding to emergency situations, writing accurate and detailed reports, and other duties as needed.

Sangamon County Corrections Officer Requirements
- Have acquired a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.
- No younger than 21 years of age at the time of appointment. (under 21 may still apply)
- Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
- Must possess a valid FOID (Firearm Owner’s Identification) card.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must pass a written examination as prescribed by the Merit Commission.
- Must pass a physical standards test.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation including drug testing.
- Must reside within Sangamon County within 6 months of employment.
- Completion of a state mandated 16 week training academy and successfully pass state testing (or have previous certification)
Sangamon County Corrections Officer Pay and Benefit Information
- Health/Dental/Vision/Life insurance starting on day 1 of employment

- Holidays: 14-15 holidays (alternates every other year for Election Day)
