What are the responsibilities and job description for the COURT CLERK I position at Sanilac County Clerk's Office?
Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the County Clerk this position is responsible for maintaining the office, files and accounts. Also responsible for preparing, recording, certifying and indexing of vital records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares daily deposits, monthly transmittals and State reports.
2. Collects and disburses funds (fines, court costs and restitution) for Circuit/Juvenile Court.
3. Prepares, records certifies and indexes vital records.
4. Provides information to the public in person or by telephone.
5. Reviews incoming mail and directs to appropriate staff.
6. Assists court staff with filing legal documents.
7. Subject to additional workload, including 17-year old olds, due to the “Raise the Age” law that went into effect in Michigan on October 1, 2021.
8. Submits reports and payments to the State of Michigan for the Sanilac County Circuit Court Juvenile Division, such as unclaimed restitution and crime victim services.
9. Maintains the annual finance report for the Sanilac County Clerk’s Office.
10. Performs many functions of the budget process, to include full access to the county budget.
11. Completes background checks.
12. Responsible for administering finger prints and sending to the State of Michigan for teachers, CPL holders, etc.
13. Exposure to several difficult situations, including, but not limited to, deadlines, intensive attention to detail, visual stain, and intermittent angry customers.
Incidental Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs a wide variety of other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience: A minimum one (1) year of experience in a legal office or related field. Experience with IBM AS/400 computer system and Microsoft office.
Physical/Mental Requirements
Visual acuity to handle long periods of computer work.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.36 - $19.17 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
