Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Sports and Events Supervisor. Develop, implement, coordinate, and monitor all Tamaya Wellness Center recreation and sports programming and activities for all ages.  Coordinate staff, volunteers, facilities, and resources in providing programming.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist in developing and coordinating the implementation of recreational and sports programs and events in the Tamaya Wellness Center.
• Required to transport the participants to and from their activities or programs.
• Assist in event planning and monitors the work of contractors and volunteers responsible for assigned recreational and sports activities.
• Promote recreation and sport activities by preparing and distributing marketing          materials through community outreach.
• Communicates and implements approved department policies and procedures.
• Assist in tracking and preparing reports on operations and activities.
• Participates in the development and administration of the program budget.
• Assure an ongoing level of high standards for new and existing sports and events programs.
• Participates in a positive, supportive, and team-oriented environment.
• Assists with youth and operations programing as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED or 1 year of community recreation and sports program experience. Must have or be able to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must be 21 years old with a clean driving record. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license and be insurable under the Pueblo’s insurance.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:

• Knowledge of principles and practices of recreation and sports program development and coordination.
• Knowledge of recreation and sports program safety compliance.
• Knowledge of basic business functions (writing, reports, basic math, budgets, office methods and equipment).
• Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, orally and in written format.
• Ability to prepare reports, and present facts and information.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, and to communicate and enforce policies.
• Skill in recreation activity and sports leadership.
• Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
• Certification in CPR and First Aid, or ability to become certified within 30 days.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit or stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk, run, and participate in fitness and sports activities.   The employee occasionally is required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Work may require the use of computers with exposure to video display terminals, the need to work in front of a computer termination for extended periods of time and some repetitive motion associated with data entry and the use of a computer mouse.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office, a gym/fitness center, or outdoor setting with a moderate noise level where employee may be exposed to unpleasant odors, hazardous material, and infectious disease. Work may also be performed outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts may occur while performing physical activities.  Work environment may include exposure to life and death situations.  Situations where protective gloves and/or protective face shields are needed may occur.  Position requires significant evening and weekend work. There is frequent interaction with program participants and Pueblo of Santa Ana staff members.
