A Day in the Life
As the IT Technician, you coordinate with our offsite IT contractor and provide onsite IT support for Garden. Your responsibilities include answering general support requests, as well as processing invoices related to our IT and phone services. This part-time (20 hours per week), non-exempt position reports to the Facilities Manager.
What You ll Do
Maintain essential IT operations in coordination with our IT contractor, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware
Help manage inventory of computers and laptops including setup of new users, and proper wiping and disposal of old machines
Install and configure workstation software, hardware, printers, and phones
Assist the Facilities team to set up new workstations, including installing and terminating custom lengths of data line as needed in a neat and tidy manner
Ensure that all workspaces have the required hardware and infrastructure to function efficiently, and help troubleshoot and implement solutions as needed
Research and procure replacement hardware as needed, with approval from Budget Manager
Install, configure, and support operational hardware including cameras, pedestrian counters, security gates, etc.
Train employees, as needed, in using software and hardware
Respond promptly to requests for assistance from staff experiencing hardware and software failure
Research, recommend, and implement plug-ins and other solutions for company software that can help streamline operations
Manage and maintain organization of unused hardware and cabling, and properly dispose of e-waste
Assist with processing invoices and other IT-related charges through accounts payable software
Other Facilities and campus maintenance duties, as time permits
You Must Be Able To
Support various production applications and Microsoft-based software
Analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions
Work well with coworkers, cooperate in a team environment, and maintain professional interactions with Garden staff, visitors and volunteers
Work weekend shifts, as required
Manage time and work under pressure to meet deadlines and priorities
Undertake strenuous physical work including the ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, lift and carry 75 lbs., bend, squat, and walk the SBBG trails
You Will Definitely Need
Proficiency in computer hardware troubleshooting and repair
Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange and Office 365
Experience in systems management, network management, and IT troubleshooting
Familiarity with software deployment and patch management
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with users at all levels
Excellent organizational skills and great attention to detail
It Would Be Nice if You Had
Helpdesk experience
An associate s degree, preferably in computer science or equivalent certification
One (1) year of front-facing customer and technical support experience
Some basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical
