Position Title: Renewable Term Faculty - Law School

Purpose
To serve on the Executive Faculty of the School of Law as Renewable-Term Faculty (RTF).
The position is a 100% full-time, eleven-month appointment.
We anticipate one or more new members of the faculty. Retention and Promotion:
The position is subject to the School of Law's Standards and Procedures for Hiring, Retention, and Promotion of Renewable-Term Faculty.
An entry-level RTF appointment shall initially receive a two-year appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law. If an entry-level RTF meets performance expectations as evaluated during the second year of the two-year appointment, the RTF may be retained and earn a three-year appointment.
After that, an RTF serving a three-year term shall be subject to a retention decision during the third year of that contract. A favorable decision will ordinarily lead to a five-year contract and promotion to Associate Clinical Professor of Law.
Candidates are welcome to apply for lateral appointments, receiving credit for prior years of service in a teaching position at another US law school. An experienced and successful applicant may be eligible to join the faculty as an Associate Clinical Professor of Law or a Clinical Professor of Law.
Teaching and Service Responsibilities:
You will teach four courses per year.
Two of those courses will be Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing I (fall) and Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing II (spring) to the same ~25 students each semester.
The other two courses will be in subject areas of core institutional need and based on your areas of practice or teaching. Current core needs include: Property, Evidence, Professional Responsibility, and Contracts.
We offer certificates in International Law, Public Interest and Social Justice, High Tech Law, and Privacy Law. Experience teaching or practicing in these areas may lead to opportunities to teach elective courses.
As a member of the full-time Executive Faculty, you will also provide service to the School of Law as assigned by the Dean, including service on faculty committees.
Members of the Executive Faculty may be eligible for course reductions for scholarship or extraordinary service.
We are proud to offer many courses during the evening hours and some weekends to accommodate students' needs. Depending on need and availability, you may be assigned to teaching during these times.
Basic Qualifications
J.D. degree and current bar membership (California preferred)
Comfort and familiarity in working with students from diverse backgrounds, especially first-generation law students.
Strong legal analysis, writing, research, and oral presentation skills.
A strong sense of service to the next generation of Santa Clara lawyers.
Prior teaching experience is preferred, ideally in a law school setting.
