Primary Purpose
As per the guidance of the Registered Nurse, the Certified Medication Aid is accountable for administering oral medications as prescribed by the doctor in compliance with State Law and their work domain. They must report any unfavorable responses or inconsistencies and maintain accurate documentation to share with the RN and / or Clinical Nurse Supervisor. Additionally, they assist the nursing staff with fundamental nursing duties and are involved in a range of medical tasks, such as receiving, stocking, and keeping track of various equipment and supplies at the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintains accurate medication administration records via the electronic medical record.
Med Aides / Techs also make sure the medication supply room is organized and clean, assist with medication cart audits, and provides accurate reports of medications on hand to pharmacy technician.
Assist pharmacy technician with ordering and inventory of medications.
Checks supplies, equipment, and materials to maintain proper stock levels.
Assists nurses with basic wound care, medical appliance use inventory, and rapid response pack medication expirations.
Complies with facility safety rules; takes appropriate corrective action to ensure work is performed in a safe manner and without injury to self or others.
Communicates effectively with staff in a manner that promotes team spirit.
Any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills :
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English language.
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
Ability to plan and organize work; handle confidential matters; and handle stressful situations courteously and helpfully.
Ability to operate various word-processing EMR and Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to effectively interact with others; express thoughts logically; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; react quickly and appropriately to emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be New Mexico State certified as a Medication Aide
Maintain American Heart Association's BLS certification for Healthcare Providers required upon hire.

Working Conditions :
Detention center setting, the incumbent may at the discretion of the Corrections Director operate within the Adult Detention Facility or Youth Development Program. Office areas are well-illuminated and are relatively quiet. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, lifting (25 lbs. max.); must be able to visually observe residents and staff; hear, understand, and interpret resident and employee behavior; detect odors through a sense of smell for such things as marijuana and alcohol. The resident population may become unruly at times, requiring quick reflexive responses. Work is primarily in an office environment. Some fieldwork may be required in various weather conditions. May be required to work evening and weekend hours. Manual and finger dexterity are required. The incumbent will be subject to random pat-down searches and random drug screening. May be subject to exposure to CRT's VDT's and UV rays. Essential employees shall be required to work assigned shifts regardless of adverse weather conditions or holidays.
Conditions of Employment :
Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug / alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a county-paid criminal background screening. Candidate must obtain and / or maintain all certifications required.
